The LS4 engine was used in a selection of General Motors vehicles during the 2000s, making its applications an important part of understanding the engine. Unlike many other LS-family engines, the LS4 was designed specifically for transverse mounting and was paired with front-wheel-drive vehicle platforms. It appeared in several GM passenger cars, including performance-oriented and full-size models where manufacturers wanted the power and refinement of a V8 without switching to a conventional rear-wheel-drive layout.
