It is a new lab-cultured variety of opals that has both the characteristic traits – the distinctiveness of genuine opal and the beautiful play of colors that natural opals show. Sterling opal is affordable and economically priced. This opal is formed via Zachary Process, named after the person who invented it, James Zachary. James Zachary was an electrical engineer and inventor who developed this process in the early 1980s. Initially, the Zachary Process was developed to improve the quality of turquoise. In the later years, James Zachary set out to create lab-cultured opals via this process.
